Characters of The Breadwinner
- Parvana is the main character in the story she is 11 years old and lives with her family in a one room apartment in Kabul, Afghanistan.
- Nooria is Parvana's older sister, supporting character. She likes to annoy Parvana. She get married later in the story and move away from Kabul.
- Parvana's Father Supporting Character. He is a translator, and works in the marketplace. He gets arrested in the beginning of the story, and returns from jail at the end.
- Parvana's Mother: Supporting Character. Starts a secret school for girls and a Magazine with Mrs. Weera
- Mrs. Weera: Supporting Character. Starts Magazine with Parvana's Mother, and is a teacher at the secret school.
- Hossain: Parvana's brother who died from a land mine
- Ali: Parvana's youngest sibling.
- Maryam: Supporting character. Parvana's second youngest sibling
- Shazia: Supporting character. Parvana's friend from school, and working companion.
- Homa: Supporting Character. Girl from Mazar-e-Shareef. Told Parvana about the trouble in Mazar-e-Shareef.
- Taliban: Supporting Character. Rulers of Afghanistan, arrest Parvana's father, and do not allow women to be outside.
